Have you ever really looked at a Coca-Cola bottle?
Most of us have seen one hundreds of times. We know exactly what it looks like—or at least we think we do. But when you sit down and actually try to draw one, you quickly discover that seeing something and really seeing it are two very different things.
That's what makes this lesson so interesting.
Using an ordinary Coca-Cola bottle as your subject, you'll slow down, take a closer look, and begin noticing things you might normally overlook—the shape of the bottle, its curves and proportions, the thickness of the glass, the label, the highlights, shadows, reflections, and all those little details that make it look real.
You'll begin with a practice drawing, so there's no pressure to get everything right the first time. Then you'll use what you've learned to create a more carefully observed final drawing.
And don't worry if you don't consider yourself an artist. You don't need advanced drawing skills for this lesson. The whole idea is to help you become a better observer. As your eyes become better at noticing shapes, proportions, light, and detail, your hand becomes better at putting those things on paper.
You may even be surprised by how much more you notice about everyday objects after completing the exercise.
Goal: To strengthen your powers of observation, improve hand-eye coordination, and help you draw what you actually see rather than what your mind assumes is there.
